MTN South Africa readies network for festive season

MTN South Africa says it has been hard at work capacitating its network in high density areas and tourist hotspots in order to carry increased voice and data traffic over the festive season. Areas identified for network optimisation are major routes including the N1 from Cape Town to the Limpopo, the N3 from Gauteng to Durban, the N12 from Johannesburg to the Garden Route, the N2 from Cape Town to Durban, N4 from Pretoria to Mozambique and N7 from Cape Town to Namibia.

Crosscall provides rugged mobile phones to MTN South Africa for university staff

French phone maker Crosscall said it has supplied MTN South Africa with equipment for Nelson Mandela University employees in the form of 1000 of its waterproof Core X3 smartphones, including PTT application. The company said the handsets are resistant to damage from being dropped and protected from scratches. They have a battery life of several days and can be recharged using a magnetic connector, making cables unnecessary.

MTN South Africa to launch mobile money service in January

MTN South Africa has announced that its mobile money service, MoMo will go live in January 2020. Customers will be able to send, receive and save money as well as pay for goods and services using their mobile phones. The announcement comes as MTN completed its engagements with all the relevant regulatory bodies and authorities, including the South African Reserve Bank.

MTN introduces MEA data roaming bundles

MTN South Africa has introduced new data roaming bundles for countries in its footprint in Africa and the Middle East. The Hello World bundles start at ZAR 79 for 100 MB valid three days, reports Mybroadband.co.za.

VODACOM EXTENDS WORKING HOURS TO FACILITATE BIOMETRIC REGISTRATION PROCESS

Vodacom’s Managing Director Hisham Hendi said the move is aimed at ensuring more Vodacom customers comply with biometric registration of Sim cards and ensure they stay connected. “We understand how busy the holiday season can get and with the December 31st deadline looming, we have decided to extend our working hours from 5 pm to 8 pm.
